Day 1: Fes to Merzouga – Through the Middle Atlas Mountains

Your journey begins in Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest and most atmospheric cities. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll head out, traveling south toward Merzouga. This day will introduce you to Morocco’s stunning geography, as you pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains, a range known for its pine forests, rocky cliffs, and picturesque villages.

Highlights:

Ifrane: Often referred to as “Little Switzerland,” this alpine town is known for its European-style architecture, clean streets, and surrounding pine forests.
Ziz Valley: As you descend into the Ziz Valley, the landscape transforms. Here, you’ll find lush palm groves that stretch across the desert, creating an oasis of green against the arid backdrop.
Erfoud: The town of Erfoud is famous for its fossils, and it’s here that you’ll begin to feel the transition from the lush green landscapes to the more barren desert terrain.

Arrival in Merzouga: By the end of the day, you will arrive in Merzouga, a small town at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Here, you’ll begin your adventure into the desert with an evening camel ride to your desert camp.

Overnight: Spend the night at a luxury desert camp in the Sahara Desert. After dinner, enjoy traditional Berber music around a campfire under the stars.

Day 2: Merzouga – Sahara Desert Exploration and Camel Trekking

A Day in the Heart of the Sahara Desert

Wake up early to witness one of the most spectacular sights in the world — the Sahara Desert sunrise. The first light of day casts an enchanting glow over the dunes, transforming the vast, undulating landscape into a scene of ethereal beauty. After breakfast at the camp, embark on a full-day desert experience, where you’ll explore the Erg Chebbi Dunes, one of Morocco’s most famous desert areas.

Camel Trekking: Ride camels across the desert, venturing deep into the heart of the Sahara. Feel the peace of the desert as the camels gently glide over the dunes.
Sandboarding: For the adventurous, sandboarding is an exciting activity that allows you to ride the dunes like a pro.
Oasis Visits: Visit hidden desert oases, where you can rest in the shade and enjoy the surreal silence of the desert. These oases are lush spots of greenery surrounded by golden sand dunes.

Day 3: Merzouga to Fes – Journey Back through the Atlas Mountains

On the final day of your 3-day desert expedition, you’ll begin your journey back to Fes, but not before taking in more of Morocco’s natural beauty. The return trip will take you back through the Ziz Valley, past palm oases, and through the rugged terrain of the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Highlights:

Rissani: Stop at Rissani, a bustling town near Merzouga that has a vibrant souk (market) and is considered the gateway to the desert.
Midelt: Known as the “Apple City” for its fertile orchards, Midelt offers a beautiful contrast to the barren desert. You’ll also pass through stunning landscapes with views of jagged mountain peaks.
Ifrane: Before returning to Fes, stop at Ifrane once more to take in the peaceful mountain town and perhaps enjoy a relaxing stroll.

Arrival in Fes: By the end of the day, you will have returned to Fes, where your 3-day desert expedition concludes.
